The Role of Breath Strength in Vocal Singing
Breath is the driving force behind vocal singing. Without breath, there is no sound, and without the correct control of breath, singing cannot be done well.
The strength of breath, against any use
The requirements for singing voice are different from ordinary speech. It not only demands pleasantness and mellowness but also requires expressing certain thoughts and emotions through various changes. Therefore, singing is different from everyday speech; it needs to control the natural breath used in daily speech, organizing it into a concentrated, powerful airflow. This requires opposing the movements of exhalation and inhalation.
The supporting points for controlling the strength of breath are three important aspects:
1. The breath must have a certain strength while being able to be slowly delivered.
2. Controlling the variations in the strength of breath.
3. Preventing the breath from squeezing into the apex of the lungs and the larynx, thus obstructing phonation.
The relationship between breath strength and vocal singing
The strength of breath is closely related to phonation, and its magnitude affects the voice, even affecting intonation. Besides, the strength of breath also affects the development of the vocal range. Without the appropriate use of breath strength, the development of the voice towards lower or higher ranges will be hindered.
