"Effective Methods for Instrument Humidity Control and Maintenance"

by linzz 15 Mar 2024

1.Instrument with desiccant

First, to monitor the humidity of the home environment in real-time, you need to prepare a hygrometer. Once the humidity exceeds 55%, we need to take some measures. The simplest method is to purchase some specialized desiccants for instruments and place them in your instrument case or box. It can effectively control moisture to prevent the instrument from absorbing moisture and deforming. It is important to note that the instrument case itself is made of water-absorbing cotton material, and moisture tends to accumulate in small and enclosed spaces. Therefore, the desiccants placed in the instrument case need to be replaced regularly.

2.Constant temperature and humidity cabinet

The most direct and effective method is to purchase a specialized dehumidifier cabinet for instruments. It can precisely control the humidity by evaporating the humid air inside the box to the outside through the built-in semiconductor condensation chip for dehumidification. At the same time, the constant temperature and humidity cabinet can also humidify during dry winter periods, achieving a dual-purpose effect.

3.Develop good habits for using instruments

After solving the problem of humidity, we also need to cultivate some essential habits for using instruments. After each playing session, clean the instrument body, strings, and fingerboard with a polishing cloth to prevent residual sweat from corroding the guitar. Regularly oiling and maintaining the strings can greatly extend their lifespan. Regularly clean the fingerboard, and in winter, regularly oil and maintain it. The glossy finish of the instrument needs regular cleaning and maintenance, while metal parts such as knobs and frets can be wiped with a cotton cloth regularly.
