Effective Piano Practice Techniques: Slow, Sectional, and Mindful

by linzz 14 Mar 2024

1.Please ensure you have a process of "slow practice"

Opening the metronome is a great aid for slow practice. Only through slow practice can we discover which chords need attention, which sections need focus, and where mistakes are likely to occur. Highlight these issues and prioritize addressing them. One slow practice session is worth more than ten fast ones.

2.Practice in sections

Divide the piece into several parts and practice each section separately. Similarly, mark the difficult and error-prone areas and focus on conquering them. Finally, combine these sections together.

3.Avoid practicing when fatigued

Practicing the piano is not about mechanical repetition, as this often leads to repeating the same mistakes. It's a process that requires continuous learning and improvement. Therefore, if you feel tired or anxious, take a break. Engage in activities that help you relax and alleviate your current state. When you're feeling refreshed, resume playing, and you'll surely be pleasantly surprised.
