Keys to Effective Piano Practice: Tips for Beginners
01. Correct Seating Position
Typically, the correct seating position should occupy only one-third to one-half of the piano bench, allowing more of the body's weight to rest on the bench, which aids in relaxation.
It's also essential to avoid shoulder shrugging, slouching, and keeping the elbows naturally hanging down, avoiding stiffness. The thighs, calves, and knees are ideally positioned at an approximate 90-degree angle, allowing the thighs to rest on the ground, better supporting the body's weight.
02. Clarify Learning Objectives
Learning the piano without a clear guiding purpose, merely following trends or even learning out of competition, is unsustainable in the long run and detrimental to the effectiveness of piano learning, especially for children.
03. Practice Speed: Slow to Fast
Especially for beginners, it's crucial to focus on slow practice, gradually increasing the speed. Slow practice allows us to ensure each note is played correctly, giving more time to correct any mistakes until the piece becomes proficient before moving on to faster tempos.
